COP30 Joint Statement & Roadmap on International Assistance & Partnerships for Green Industry Transitions
Members of the Working Group on Green Industry for Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDEs) has issued a Joint Statement and Roadmap for International Assistance and Partnerships for Green Industry Transitions.
Bringing together governments, philanthropies, delivery partners and international organisations, the statement underscores that industrial decarbonisation in EMDEs is a win–win–win: stronger competitiveness and resilient supply chains, inclusive prosperity, and progress towards shared climate goals. Facilitated by the Breakthrough Agenda and the Climate Club’s Global Matchmaking Platform, at UNIDO, the Working Group is currently composed of 24 countries and over 30 partnering organizations.
The Roadmap sets five priority themes for joint action: building a collaborative ecosystem, mobilising investments and making decarbonisation investable, driving demand and market creation, strengthening competitiveness and resilient supply chains, and enhancing transparency through carbon accounting.
Recognizing this urgency, Germany, United Kingdom, along with philanthropies increased grant financing to support green industrial transitions in EMDEs as part of the Roadmap. Collectively, they have committed more than $30 million to establish a new ‘Industry Decarbonisation (ID) Hubs Accelerator’ that will be facilitated by UNIDO to advance industrial decarbonisation projects in emerging economies.
The Industrial Decarbonization Hubs Accelerator will support ambitious EMDEs in developing their own industry decarbonization hubs by providing funding, technical assistance, and partnerships with aligned stakeholders to accelerate project deployment. It builds on successful models such as the Brazil-UK ID Hub and leverages the Global Matchmaking Platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing.
The Working Group intends to update the Roadmap at each COP through to the next Global Stocktake to track delivery and sustain international coordination.
