A timeline of technologies for decarbonizing steel
Steel production accounts for about 7% of global energy-related CO2 emissions, largely due to a significant amount of the sector’s energy coming from coal. Technology choices depend on local conditions (e.g. electricity mix, furnace age, scrap access, and finance availability).
What are the Pathways to Net Zero Industry?
Together, policymakers, financiers, and industry leaders can transform these sectors. But, to turn ambition into action, a skilled workforce, knowledge exchange, and strong institutions are essential to design, fund, and deliver low-carbon solutions at scale.
The scale and impact of green public procurement of steel and cement in Canada, Germany, the UK, and the US
This report, developed with support from UNIDO and the Industrial Deep Decarbonization Initiative (IDDI), assesses the scale of public procurement and the CO2 emissions impact of pledge levels for Green Public Procurement (GPP) to the IDDI in four countries—Canada, Germany, the UK, and the US—on the decarbonization of the steel and cement industries.
